Thursday Evening Beginners

About the course:

This course will give you a fun introduction to the basics of sailing a small dinghy and gives you opportunity to push yourself if you wish and includes:

- Rigging the boat

Ropework

Sailing Techniques and

  Manoeuvres

Clothing and Equipment

Capsize Recovery 

Sailing Background

Meterorology

The Course is taught using skills from the RYA Onboard scheme which links to the national curriculum including: Teamwork, Determination, Communication, Independence, Confidence and Creativity.

Thursday Evening Beginners

10 Thursday evening sessions

Launch 6pm - Return 8pm

Assumed Knowledge:

No previous Knowledge is required for the course.

30th July - 1st September

At the end of the course is is the aim to reach RYA stage 2 of the National Sailing Scheme.

Thursday Evening Improvers 

About the course:

During this evening club we will be developing you sailing further through fun games and activities as well as introduce you to racing. Course content is as follows:

- Leaving and returning to a

  pontoon/ mooring

- Coming alongside 

- Sailing in close company

- Performing a man overboard

  Recovery

- Five Essentials 

- Tacking upwind and Gybing

  Downwind 

- etc. 

On completion of this course you will be able to continue in this group or join the Wednesday night race training.

This course has most of its emphasis towards having fun on the water but there may be opportunities to work towards your stage 3 or higher

 

Holiday Camps

About the course:

Our 4-5 day camps during the Easter and Summer holidays are designed to get everyone out on the water and enjoying themselves. These are open to everyone aged 8 - 16 and students will be grouped depending on ability. Beginners will be working towards their RYA stage 1 and 2 and other groups working towards their relevant levels. These are a great opportunity to get out on the water and get a lot of sailing in.

Powerboat Taster

About the course:

This course will provide a practical introduction to boost handling and safety in powerboats. It is a good taster to get started in powerboating. You do not need to do this course to do your RYA Powerboat Level 2. The course includes:

- Equipment 

- Low and Fast speed boat handling

- Use of kill cord

- Picking up a mooring Bouy

- Leaving and coming alongside

The course is mainly practical with a small 

theoretical element.

Powerboat Taster

No previous Knowledge is required for the course.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

About the course:

The powerboat level 2 course is designed to give you a good understanding of boat handling and seamanship. This is normally the minimum requirement to hire boats in the UK and when paired with an International Certificate of Confidence, abroad. The course includes: 

- Launching and recovery

- Boat Handling 

- Securing to a buoy

- Anchoring

- Leaving and coming alongside

- Man overboard 

- etc. 

On completion of this course you will have a basic understanding of all these skills and a good grounding to build on them.
