During the latest restrictions to water activities our Virtual Regatta club races have returned by popular demand! Members of the club’s training and dinghy section have kindly volunteered as PRO’s hosting a number of races and have even reinstated a number of “Lockdown Series” through VIP accounts.
If you’re new to e-sailing, Virtual Regatta is very easy to pick up and will suit both sailors and non-sailors alike. Simply sign up for a free account and work your way through the simple tutorials of ‘Sailing School’ - and you’re ready to join the next club event!
The club’s custom races which were previously hosted twice weekly are now being hosted on Tuesday evenings at 19:30, with a total of four or five races back to back, each lasting approximately 5 minutes long. Anyone can join the club’s races either on your computer, tablet or phone; all you need is the pass code to enter the private race which is shared with everyone a few minutes before the race starts via the CBYC Virtual Sailing WhatsApp group.
Competitors will have the opportunity to race in several of the 10 different virtual boats: Laser, Offshore Racer, Nacra17, Star, Fareast28, Barcolana, J70, F50, Formula18 and the latest addition: the America’s Cup 75 boat, all of which can be customised to the colour or style that suits you. Some members choose black and red with the jolly roger emblazoned across their spinnakers, while others are more traditional with white hull and the Club’s bear mascot.
RYA e-sailing Winter Club Championships 2021
Each class will be run in a series lasting up to six weeks, with results ranking participants overall and by boat. The top sailors from each class and overall will then compete in a head to head final usually held on the last Saturday of the series. You can join a series or class race at any point, but you will need to participate in at least 6 races allowing for one discard to count.
Results are posted in the WhatsApp Group following each series and will be uploaded online afterwards.
