COVID-19 Update 23/10/20
I am sure you are all aware that a full lockdown will come into force this Friday at 1800hrs and will continue until 1201hrs on Monday, 9th of November. We would expect our members to comply with the current Welsh Government 'stay at home’ guidelines which includes not travelling except for very limited purposes and essential exercise. This does not include any waterborne activities. During this period the office will be manned as normal and members can contact the staff by phone or email. The site will remain open and contractors working at the club or on members boats should contact the yard or main office when they arrive on site.
The yard fees will be suspended for the period of this lockdown and the Council of Management are considering ways of recompensing members for the lack of use of the facilities this year. The new smartcard system that should be rolled out in November will include a £50 credit added to every member's card if their membership fees were paid on time. The club's yard staff will maintain a watch on the boats at the club and will try to inform any member if there is a problem or a safety issue with a boat but this does not remove the responsibility that an owner has for looking after their boat. Under the lockdown restrictions we would not expect members to visit the club but if you think that your boat requires essential and urgent attention that cannot be rectified by the yard staff then it will be your decision and responsibility to resolve the problem. If you have to visit your boat please follow all safety guidelines especially keeping a safe distance on the pontoons.
A local notice to Mariners was posted earlier this week and request that all Mariners refrain from using their vessels in Cardiff Bay and on the Rivers Taff and Ely. It also states that the Barrage locks will be closed to traffic except for emergencies from 1800hrs Friday 23rd October until 0001hrs Monday 9th November.
The bar will open from 1200hrs tomorrow (Friday) serving drinks and food up until 1730hrs. Please follow the Government's Covid-19 guidelines and don't forget you should leave the premises and be at home for 1800hrs. Thereafter, the clubhouse, including the main toilet will remain closed until Monday, 9th of November. The toilets at the rear of the building will remain open and are accessed by a members card.
The club's office was broken into last Sunday night, they smashed a door but not much damage was done, we are currently in discussions with our insurers. The CCTV cameras recorded the incident but it has prompted us to assess all our security measures around the site. The security cameras in and around the clubhouse give us good coverage but there are areas of the pontoon system that need to be covered. The existing cameras on the pontoon also require updating and we are looking at the cost of replacing them with a system that may enable members to logon and check remotely and we are in the process of getting quotes.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding and hopefully we may move back to some sort of normality in the near future.
Commodore, CBYC On behalf of the Committee of Management
