Nimrod Cup

September 2010

 

1.0 THE EVENT

The organizing authority is Cardiff Bay Yacht Club.

2.0 RESPONSIBILITY

2.1 Yacht racing can be dangerous. The attention of owners, skippers and crew is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 4: "A yacht is solely responsible for deciding whether or not to start or to continue racing". The safety of a yacht and her crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the owner or owner's representative who must do their best to ensure that the yacht is fully found, thoroughly seaworthy and manned by an experienced crew who are physically fit to face bad weather. They must be satisfied as to the soundness of the hull, spars, rigging, sails and all gear. They must ensure that the safety equipment is properly maintained and stowed and that the crew knows where it is kept and how it is to be used.

2.2 Cardiff Bay Yacht Club and other organising clubs accept no responsibility or liability for loss of life or injury to members or others, or for the loss of, or damage to, any vessel or property.

2.3 Yachts must hold a valid and current boat insurance covering them for third party claims of up to £3,000,000 for the entire duration of the series.

3.0 RULES & REGULATIONS

3.1 The race will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) of the ISAF, the prescriptions and safety regulations of the Offshore Racing Council, the International Rule (Club), the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (where applicable), and this Notice of Race, all as modified by the Sailing Instructions. Races will be to ORC category 4.

3.2The ABP Port of Cardiff Orders and the Cardiff Harbour Authority regulations and Local Notices to Mariners will apply.

4.0 ELIGIBILITY

4.1 Entries will be accepted into a PY fleet. Each entrant shall be self-righting, single hull vessel

     4.1.3     Entries into the PY fleet must meet the following criteria;

    

4.1.3.1  They must not have held a IRC certificate or raced in an IRC fleet in 2009 or 2010.

4.1.3.2  They must not have held a Sportsboat certificate or raced in a Sportsboat fleet in 2009 or 2010.

4.1.3.3  They must incorporate into the design and construction of the boat two or more sleeping berths.

4.1.3.4  Entrants into the PY fleet will be allocated handicaps from, in precedence, the RYA YR2 list, as found on byronsoftware.co.uk or as determined by the race committee.

4.3 Entrants into the PY fleet will compete for the Nimrod Cup.

4.4 There must be more than 3 boats to constitute a fleet

 

5.0 ENTRY/CLOSING DATES etc.

5.1 Entries must be received by the Club on the Entry form together with the appropriate fee and certification by Monday 6th September.

  5.2 Entry fees are as follows per boat; £50

           

No entry will be accepted without full payment. Visiting yachts can be berthed at the Club for the duration of the series free of charge (this may be extended for a short period before or after the series, by prior arrangement with the CBYC Marina Manager). Payment can be made by cheque, payable to Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, or by credit card in person or by phone to the Club office.

5.4 Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the race committee with a 50% surcharge on the entry fee.

 

6.0 REGISTRATION & SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Registration will take place at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club on Friday 10th September 2010 from 19:00 to 21:00. Sailing Instructions will be posted on the CBYC website by Wednesday 1 September. Hard copies will be available at registration. All competitors must send at least one representative to the registration, as there may be other instructions such as bay locking schedules to give out.

 

7.0 ADVERTISING

8.1 Advertising shall be in accordance with RRS Appendix 1, Category B.

8.2 Discussions are still under way with potential sponsors. If the event is sponsored yachts shall carry the sponsor’s logo stickers or flags provided.

 

8.0 SCORING SYSTEM

8.1 The low point scoring system, in accordance with RRS 88.3, will be used.

8.2  For the Nimrod Cup each boat may discard 1 race after 4 have been held, 2 after 6 have been held and 3 after 10 have been held.

 

10.0 PRIZES

10.1           Prizes will be awarded at the Presentation Dinner to be held the evening of 18th September

10 .1           4 boats first prize only,   5-6 boats 1st and 2nd prizes only, 7 or more 1st 2nd and 3thd prizes
