Owing to
essential lock maintenance taking place on Cardiff Bay Barrage Lock No 2 (see NTM
22 of 2009), locking operations are currently restricted to two locks, one of
which is the shallower Lock 1. On
the weekend of the 19th and 20th September there will be large spring
tides. Given the tidal range, mariners
should note that Lock 1 will not be available for navigation (due to
insufficient water above the outer cill) between the following approximate
times:
Saturday
19th September 2009 - 11.15 to
Sunday 20th
September 2009 -
Mariners should
also note that there is a high likelihood of heavy lock traffic on these days
resulting from fine weather and yacht races in the estuary (the Shanghai
Cup). In this case, there are likely to
be restrictions one hour either side of high water to control
salinity ingress into the Bay.
Mariners
are requested to exercise patience during these periods if there are queues for
locking. Barrage staff will make every
effort to lock vessels through the Barrage as quickly as possible.
