| 19 September 2011 | Some changes to Sunday Races | |
Please note that the Cardiff Half Marathon is taking place on the morning of Sunday 16th October 2011. This will result in quite a lot of road closures around Cardiff, including most of the roads around the normal access routes to the club. Therefore, we have decided to reschedule the Racing on Sunday 16th October to be an AFTERNOON RACE starting at 2:30pm. Also, please note, that due to a large Oppie event taking place at the Club over the weekend of 19/20 November, we have decided to CANCEL Club racing on Sunday 20th November. Andrew On behalf of the Dinghy Com. |
||
| 19 August 2011 | Racing CANCELLED Sunday 28th August | |
| Over the Bank Holiday Weekend, there is a large Oppie event taking place on the Bay. Due to this, we have decided to CANCEL racing on Sunday 28th August to ensure that there is enough room in the Dinghy compound and on the Water. Sorry for the late notice. Andrew |
||
| 4 August 2011 | Racing CANCELLED Sunday 7th August | |
| Hello All, Sorry for the late notice, but I only found out tonight that there is a Water Skiing Competition in the Bay on Sunday between 11:00 and 16:30. In past years, this has taken up most of the water space on the Bay, and the little water space that is left is used for Cruisers to get past the Water Skiing. Therefore this Sunday's Racing (7th August) is CANCELLED. Andrew |
||
| 12 May 2011 | Topper 4.2 Nationals | |
This year, CBYC is hosting the Topper 4.2 Nationals on the weekend of 25/26 June. Therefore, Club Racing on Sunday 26th June is CANCELLED. Andrew |

| 13 April 2011 | Wednesday Series Start Next Week! | |
| Just a reminder that the Wednesday Series will start next Wednesday 20th April 2011 The first race will start at 7:00pm on the dot. If the weather is fair, then we might be able to squeeze two races in, but we will need to start on time! The OOD / SB rota can be found on the club web site www.cbyc.co.uk in the Dinghy & NoR, SI, and Documents section. Please make sure that you know when you are rota'd to do your turn. If you can't make the date on the list, please contact Chris Rogers straight away to arrange a swap. Alternatively, if your name is not on the list, then contact Chris to have it put on the next series. For those of you (CBYC) that haven't already entered racing for this year please do so with Idris. If you are only intending to sail the Wednesday Series (Early and Late) and haven't already entered, then you will also need to contact the office to pay your race entry fee of £20, which covers both Wednesday Series. For those of you that haven't yet paid up for the Sunday Series (£20) or All Series (£35) in the year, please DO SO ASAP. There are still some of you out there that haven't yet paid!!!! When the next set of results are published, I shall be excluding those people from the results that have NOT paid up. My definition of paid up, is that your name is on the list provided to me by the office at the end of each Friday. Sorry, but to be fair to everyone, I will not accept verbal 'I've Paid' as an alternative! Also, is there a volunteer or two out there that can help me move a few boats around in compound next Monday or Tuesday evening (it shouldn't take more than 30 - 60 mins) ? If you can, please contact me. Cheers Andrew |
||
| 29 March 2011 | Oppie Event | |
| Please note that there will be an Oppie Event on down the club this weekend (2nd & 3rd April) where there could be up to 60 Oppies sailing. Normal Club racing will go ahead as planned. Therefore please be aware that parking will be tight, and that the overflow car park will be in operation. You might also want to give yourself a bit more time for getting your boat ready and launched. It's probably best if everybody other than the 15s use the Cruiser slipway instead of the main slipway. Sorry for the short notice. |

| 3 April 2010 | Dinghy Compound boat movements | |
| A small team on volunteers moved a few boats around in the compound on Sat 3rd April. Thank you to those who came down and helped. The number of boats moved was very small, so most of you will not have been affected. For those that might have been, here is a brief out line of what was done :- Two Lasers were moved from the pitching to the grass area, along with a Wayfarer and the Osprey. The Laser 2000 and the Omega that were on the grass are now in row D in the Compound. The boats that were moved out of the compound and onto the grass were moved because the owners had not sailed the required number of sails during the year. Do to shortage of space on the grass area, the boats that have not yet put in a berthing request have not been moved as yet. These boats either need a berthing request to be submitted or the boats removed from the club. Please do not move these boats back to the main compound. No Oppies or training boats were moved. Hopefully you should start receiving your boat stickers with the compound location listed on it. Please display the sticker in a prominent position so that it can be seen easily, and make sure that your boat stays in the correct space during the year! Andrew On behalf of the Dinghy Committee. |
||
| 31 March 2010 | Dinghy Compund Re-arrangement | |
| There will be a small party of Dinghy Committee members relocating some of the Dinghies within the Dinghy compound on Saturday morning (3rd April), as part of the 'Use it or Lose it' policy. If you wish to come along and help, then please be down the club for about 10am. The vast majority of boats will not be moved, although some boats in the same fleet might be put together, which would necesitate a few other boats being moved around to accommodate this. The only boats being moved out of the main Dinghy compound are those boats that HAVE NOT been sailed the required number of times last year, or are boats that have NOT made a request for a space for the coming year. The moved boats will be carefully taken out and moved to the grass area to the north of the club house, where they will be tied down awaiting removal by their owners. Boats currently on the grass area that are used regularly, will then be moved into the main Dinghy compound (including the pitchings for the Lasers) If your boat is one of the ones moved to the grass area, please DO NOT move it back into the compound, as it has been moved for a reason, speak to the Dinghy Committee first to clarify why it has been moved. It will be either that you didn't sail it enough times, or you haven't applied for a space. If you move it back, it'll get put back on the grass area again. I will be sending the list of allocated spaces to Kirsty after the boats have been moved to the correctly sized spaces. You should then receive your stickers, with the location number on it, once you have paid. When you receive the stickers, please place them in a prominent position on the boats so that they can be easily seen. Andrew On behalf of the Dinghy Committee |

This is to allow space to be created for a marquee to be erected for Ellen MacArthur’s visit, and then as storage space for Oppies during their regatta the following weekend. Club racing will still take place on Wednesday 26th, but please be advised that parking will be an issue, and that you may need to launch from the other slipway as well as the normal slip way. If you launch from the normal slipway, watch out for Ellen’s boat, which will be moored up on the visitors pontoon. As the 3 clubs regatta is nolonger taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend, and we are now between series, Idirs will be holding a Turbo Race Event next Sunday morning (24th May). So, if your looking for your normal Sunday Sailing fix, then turn up for a different type of racing (otherwise Idris will get lonely!!) |
||
| 10 May 2009 | Flying Fifteen Compound | |
Hi All, Just to let you all know, the Flying Fifteen compound is being levelled in the next week or so. The intention is to level out the whole area, and top it off with fine chippings / stones to make boat movements that much easier. Therefore, ALL the boats in the Flying Fifteen area have been moved to other areas around the club, with most of the FFs in the corner of the boat yard, with one or two on the grass area, and two other smaller dinghies moved to the main compound temporarily whilst the work is being carried out. Please don’t move your boats back into the FF compound before it’s finished! Many thanks to all those that helped move the boats out of the FF area, it was much appreciated. |
||
| 26 April 2009 | Laser improver Coaching / Training | |
Hi All, During May, Helen and myself will be running Laser coaching / training sessions on Thursday Evenings (4 off), starting on May 7th. The coaching is intended for those of you who are either new to the boat, or out of the sailing school in the last year or two, and want to improve your sailing techniques in the Laser. The intension is that you will need to attend all 4 if possible, as we will take you through the steps of setting up your boat, to roll tacking and gybing etc to help you be more efficient around the race course. The coaching / training sessions will work towards and finish off with some race training between the Lasers on the sessions. If you are interested in coming alone, please book yor place with the Office at CBYC ASAP. We are sort of limited to about 6 boats, (one place of which has gone already!!) If you book, or intend to come, then please let me know by e-mail. If you know of any other Laser sailors ay CBYC would would like to come along, please let them know as well. Thanks Andrew |

| 12 April 2009 | Dinghy Compound boat movements | |
| A small team on volunteers moved a few boats around in the compound on Sat 11 April. The number of boats moved was very small, so most of you will not have been affected. For those that might have been, here is a brief out line of what was done :- All the Lasers that were on the Grass area to the north of the club are now on the pitching's along the front huddled up to each other. The Wayfarer and the RS200 that were on the grass are now in row D in the Compound, with one Finn now in the main compound (Row B) whilst the other is still on the grass. The boats that were moved out of the compound and onto the grass are :- Wanderer and a Laser 2000 (no birthing requests received the office) Merlin Rocket, Skipper 12 (not sailed the required number of times so lose their space for this year) Please do not move these boats back to the main compound. No Oppies or training boats were moved, apart from one 420 which was hiding in D01, so is now on the grass. Hopefully you should start receiving your boat stickers with the compound location listed on it. Please display the sticker in a prominent position so that it can be seen easily, and make sure that your boat stays in the correct space during the year! Andrew On behalf of the Dinghy Committee. |

| With the new Racing Series starting soon on the 1st March, you might be interested, or in need of, a refresher of OOD duties! If you are, then come along to an OOD refresher evening on :- Thursday 26th February @ 7:30pm in the wet bar / class room at CBYC. Idris will run through the OOD duties that you will be expected to carry out as part of your rota over the coming year. Idris will also run through the modifications that we would like to include as part of the series this year, namely the number of laps to be sailed, how to indicate this from the committee boat, and how to shorten the course depending on time of the lead boat if necessary. The session will also go through order of the course eg (triangle, sausage x3 ) where it is hoped that this will extend the racing to 45 minutes per race, as opposed to last years sausage, triangle x2 which gave average racing of only 30 minutes per race. If there is no Rules update clinich between now and 26th Feb, then it is hoped that we can run through some of this years rule changes as well. Hope to see you ALL there! Andrew |
