PROGRAM OF EVENTS AND IDEAS FOR 2012

I am pleased to tell you that your committee has arranged a joint Flying Fifteen / Blaze open meeting over the weekend of 21/22 July also on the 21st July the club will be hosting a “Sail for Gold” event to publicise the Olympic Sailing. The idea being to sail an armada of boats (hopefully about 100) around the bay decked out with streamers advertising the Olympic Sailing. This would take place after the racing on that day.  (also Flying Fifteen sailors please do your best to support the open meeting at Llangorse on 22/23 September) We are also holding the Laser 2000 Welsh Championships / Comet Duo Open Meeting on 13/14 October.

Our presence on the WYA South East Region Council is now well establish and one of the main benefits to come out of this is that the clubs now co-ordinate racing and training events to the benefit of all the clubs in the South East Region.

One of my main concerns as last year is that we are not very successful in retaining young sailors who have come to the end of the highly successful WYA Youth Training age 18/20. I have discussed this with our WYA Regional coach Ben Smith. One of the ideas is to hold Road Shows for classes of boat that might interest sailors of the above age group. To that end Ben is organizing an RS 200 day in the near future.

On a closing note please don’t keep the sport of sailing to your selves, tell your friends and family what great fun it is! We should all be willing to take people for a ride, and don’t forget our club has excellent training courses for both youth and adult’s at very reasonable rates.

Looking forward to meeting you all at this year’s AGM

Best Regards Idris Dibble CBYC Dinghy Chairman
