16 January 2008 Dinghy EGM
1 Dinghy Section EGM

An Extraordinary General Meeting of the Dinghy Section will be held on Wednesday 20 February 2008 to consider the adoption of a selective admissions policy. Details of the meeting and the proposed policy have been posted to all members.

2 Safety Boat Endorsement

In order to conform with Health and Safety requirements, it will be necessary for the safety boat helm and/or crew to have safety boat endorsement. To help you achieve this, CBYC will be making available week-end training courses at the significantly reduced rate of £35/person.

To participate, you will need to be physically able and in possession of a PB2 qualification. The courses will involve participants getting into the water; a dry suit is recommended.

The courses will be run over the next 6 months and if you are interested in participating, please contact Idris Dibble.

3 Racing Fees

The annual costs of operating the Dinghy Section racing programme viz. Race Officer remuneration, petrol for the safety boat, prizes and miscellaneous running expenses amount to approximately £2,000 per year. In order to cover these costs and to accommodate the views expressed at the November AGM, the Dinghy Committee has agreed that the following revised rate of charges be introduced for the 2008/9 season:

Annual fee (to cover entry for all five series ie Spring, Summer, Autumn and Early & Late Wednesday) £80
Fee for each individual series £20
Daily fee (for occasional racers) £5

Payment should be made prior to participation and, in the case of occasional racers, the £5 fee should be lodged with the Chair of the Dinghy Committee (Idris Dibble) or any other member of the Committee no later than half-an-hour before the commencement of the first race.
Non-payers will be excluded and their sails will not be counted for the purpose of the 'Use it or lose it' policy.

15 October 2007 2007 Dinghy Section AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Dinghy Section will be held at 7.30 pm on Wednesday, 21 November 2007 in the Quay Lounge, Cardiff Bay Yacht Club.

23 July 2007 2 July meeting
The second Wednesday series and the Winter series will commence on Wednesday, 25 July and Sunday, 12 August 2007 respectively. After a disappointing turn-out, in particular from the slow fleet, for the first three series of this year’s racing programme, the second Wednesday series will be run as a general handicap, one fleet series with all boats sailing off their RYA PY numbers. The winter series will have two fleets, asymmetric and general handicap.

In order to encourage more participation, it has been agreed that occasional racers will be allowed to compete on an unpaid basis on the understanding that their results will not be counted and they do not impede any of the registered racers.

Only two of the boats, which failed to achieve the minimum threshold of 6 sails during 2006/7, still remain in the dinghy compound and these will now be disposed of in accordance with Club rules. The reorganisation has enabled 15 new members to be granted berths for the current season.

Would you be interested in taking your dinghy outside the barrage to explore the coast-line? If so, please contact John Gallacher (j.g@ukonline.co.uk)

12 July 2007 2 April 2007 meeting
As a result of the 'Use it or lose it' policy, a total of 32 boats have been identified for removal from the dinghy compound. Please note that the qualifying period for recording at least 6 sails during the current season is 1 April 2007 – 15 March 2008. Participation in racing events will be taken from the results but cruising members must record their sails in the logs which are available in the General Office and the Quarterdeck bar.

18 February 2007 5 February 2007 meeting
The Council of Management (CoM) has agreed to extend the concreting of the main yard to include the area between the winch house and the bridge house used for dinghy storage. This has now been completed and, in addition, wires have been laid in Rows B, C and D for tying boats down. These securing points have been provided for your benefit to minimise potential damage to boats in high winds; please make sure that you use them.

CoM has also provided funds for the refurbishment of a new Committee boat and the purchase of a power brush to clean the immersed section of the dinghy slipway.

The notice of race, entry forms and sailing instructions for the 2007 Spring Series are now available on the web. The entry fee of £20 per boat per series must be paid prior to participation and, under the new arrangements, it is proposed that entry fees can be paid via the General Office by phone.

The deadline for registering the requisite six sails to be eligible for a berth in 2007/8 is 31 March 2007 and the owners of any boats which have not reached the target by then will be required to remove them from the Club’s premises.

The Committee has approved a check-list for the local organisers of Open meetings; copies are available from the Sailing Secretary.
