Welcome to this section of our website.
"The
object for which the Club is formed is to encourage all forms of yachting, sailing, motor boating and fishing and to provide good fellowship"
To give you some background information about our Club:
Penarth Motor Boat and Sailing Club was
formed in 1932 and in 1999 changed its name
to Cardiff Bay Yacht Club t/as Penarth Motor Boat and Sailing Club.
Our memberships are made up of families, couples and individuals all of whom have a common
aim and that is to enjoy themselves both on and off
the water in a wide selection of boats ranging from cruisers, fishing boats, motor boats and dinghies.
The Club offers
its members a wide range
of facilities both nautical and social, and has extensive mooring
rights for
500 boats on the River Ely with a fully piled
pontoon system i.e. 400 pontoon berths and 100
river moorings.
We also offer limited dinghy storage
on shore and have adopted a “Use it or
Lose it” policy to
ensure that our
limited storage space is allocated to members
who use their boats regularly
whether it be for
racing or purely
recreational. Consideration
in allocating space is also given to the type of dinghy used; Optimists, Lasers,
Dart 15s, Classic Flying Fifteens and Laser
2000s being among the preferred
boats of the Dinghy Section.
If you
are interested in joining the Club our application form can be printed off this
website. However, if you would like some more information before completing the
form then please do not hesitate to
contact me on either 029 2051 4915, 07974 561514 or you can e mail me at jh@janie.f9.co.uk
Once
you have printed off and filled in your application
form to join Cardiff Bay Yacht Club you will need to send it in to the
Club’s administration office, together with the appropriate joining fee.
Applications for Junior Membership should be made on a separate application
form.
Once received, your name will be published, for a period of two weeks, on our notice board for all members to read and it is at this stage that if anyone
has an objection they will notify me.
During
this two week period your application will be passed on to me, when I will
contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time, usually in the
evening, to meet at the Club for an informal discussion to answer any questions you may have regarding
your application. Sometimes the interview process can take up to four weeks,
depending upon the number of applicants waiting to be interviewed so please be
patient I will contact you as soon as I can.
It is
my responsibility to explain how the Club is run, the role of the Council of Management within
the Club, and what is expected of you as a member. It is also important that your level of experience or inexperience on the water is also discussed and if needed, to improve your knowledge of boat handling etc, Courses can be recommended, whether in-house or organised by reputable local organisations. If appropriate, I will then recommend that your application be accepted at the next
Council of Management meeting, normally held on the third Monday of every month. If applicable, it is only when
your application has been approved by the Council of Management that arrangements can be made with our Marina
Manager to bring your boat to the Club. However, at the moment we are operating a
waiting list for both pontoon berths and moorings – the criteria to be included
on this list is that you have to become a member of Cardiff Bay Yacht Club and already own a boat.
This procedure may seem rather outdated to any prospective new members but we think it important to uphold this long standing
tradition, thus ensuring that the groundwork laid down by our founder members, both past and present,
continues into the future for our benefit and that of our children.

Jane Hall
