He learned to sail in GP14's
and a 28' cutter at the Outward Bound School in Aberdovey
in the mid 60's, and later raced a Lark at Llandegfydd
and the Steel Company pond in Port Talbot.
When he moved back to Cardiff he started crewing on cruiser
racers, initially on Spirit of Defiance and Wishbone,
competing both locally and in the Cork Regattas. He bought
the J24 'Out of Control' in 1989 and now races the Cork
1720 'Warrior'.
He has cruised to many ports in an area ranging from Kinsale
to Concarneau, and Hamble to St.Malo. Now prefers sunnier
climes and has chartered in Greece, Turkey, Croatia, BVI's
and the Windward Islands.
Semi retired he acts as an internet based dealer in antiques
and collectables. |

Steve is 55 years old, married with
2 grown up daughters. He has been sailing on and off for many years
beginning as a teenager racing in an Enterprise dinghy. The past
year has seen him industriously refitting his Trident 24 in which
he cruises with his wife, Sheila. In addition, he owns a Flying
Fifteen, in partnership, which is occasionally raced.
Steve is a relatively new member of CBYC and only joined the COM
this year, he is gradually learning the ropes and endeavouring to
help where possible. |

A very recent volunteer for the
Committee, joining in 2002 following the Club's plea for new members
to come forward. Jeff joined CBYC in 1999, but started sailing
some 45 yrs ago at Barry Yacht Club. Having built and then sailed
a 12ft ply sailing dinghy, he progressed though an Enterprise
and two Albacores over some 15 yrs. to "big boats" -
a 36ft 1939 cutter (resurrected from dereliction), a Nicholson
32 and now - since 1992, a Rustler 36 (bought as a shell in 1988
and fitted out over 5yrs "hard labour"!). With two grandchildren
rapidly approaching "sailing age", Jeff sees dinghy
or keelboat sailing as his future in the Bay - the Rustler is
kept and sailed on the Atlantic Coast of France.
Lead member on the group carrying out a Review of Communications
within the Club - he prepared and submitted the Report now laid
before Council in December 2002." |
